Even the VAR can’t steal Werder’s victory

well? Suddenly Werder Bremen is on a promotion place. In the event of a clear victory against Fortuna Düsseldorf, VAR had to intervene several times, but Werder continued to win happily under new coach Ole Werner. Leader St. Pauli can just avoid an embarrassing bankruptcy against basement child Aue.

Werder Bremen – Fortuna Dusseldorf 3: 0 (0: 0)

First division relegated Werder Bremen has continued its winning streak in the 2nd Bundesliga. At the start of the new year, the Hanseatic League defeated Fortuna Düsseldorf 3-0 (0-0). With 32 points, Werder have moved up to third place after the fourth three in a row.

However, it took until the 66th minute before Niclas Füllkrug scored the 1-0 with a header. The referee gave the goal after video evidence, the cross came from Marvin Ducksch, whose supposed 2-0 was not given in the 73rd minute after video evidence because of an offside position. Previously, the Düsseldorf team had lost Kristoffer Peterson in the 58th minute after a serious foul against Felix Agu with a red card. Ducksch’s goal in the 80th minute was legal, and Füllkrug added his second goal (87′).

Already in the ninth minute the hosts had the first chance by filling pitcher. However, his header went just wide of the goal. Just six minutes later, Leonardo Bittencourt had the next opportunity for SV Werder on his feet. However, he hesitated a little too long, so that the ball was deflected and tumbled out. In the 20th minute Ducksch also had the 1-0 for Bremen on his feet. Düsseldorf goalkeeper Florian Kastenmeier steered the ball over the crossbar after Ducksch’s direct acceptance. Only after half an hour were the Rhinelanders able to make the game a little more open.

FC St. Pauli – FC Erzgebirge Aue 2: 2 (1: 1)

Promotion aspirant FC St. Pauli has lost important points again and has to worry about the lead in the table. Hamburg saved at least a 2:2 (1:1) against Erzgebirge Aue with a late goal by Etienne Amenyido (90+3). For the team coached by Timo Schultz, who had extended his expiring contract during the week, it was the third game in a row without a win.

Chaser Darmstadt 98 is only two points behind and can take first place with a win against Karlsruher SC (8:30 p.m. / Sky). St. Pauli has been at the top since the beginning of October and ten match days. In the afternoon Ben Zolinski (17th) scored with Aue’s first real offensive action, the initially superior Hamburger equalized through Jakov Medic (30th). Nikola Trujic (72nd) gave the now improved guests the lead again in the second half. In between, Aue’s strong goalkeeper Martin Männel had kept the guests in the game several times, he defused good chances from Jackson Irvine and Marcel Hartel immediately before the break.

1. FC Nuremberg – SC Paderborn 07 1: 2 (0: 2)

1. FC Nürnberg suffered a severe setback in the promotion race. In the home game against SC Paderborn, the club lost 2-1 (0-2) and missed out on third place in the table.

With his 14th goal of the season, striker Sven Michel gave the SCP the lead in the 41st minute. He was successful with a wonderful lob after SCP captain Ron Schallenberg served Michel with a pass from the bottom in an exemplary manner. Just three minutes later, Felix Platte headed the ball to make it 2-0 for Paderborn, who used their few chances very efficiently. Michel did the preliminary work. The Norwegian Mats Möller Daehli (61st) headed the goal for the home side. With 30 points, Nuremberg slipped down to seventh place in the table. The East Westphalians also passed FCN with 30 points and are now sixth.

In the first game of the new year, Nuremberg needed a quarter of an hour to get their first big chance. However, Manuel Schäffler’s header after a cross from Enrico Valentini (15th) narrowly missed the SCP goal. The FCN now took over more and more the command, but without being able to create clear goal chances. The guests cleverly made the rooms narrow and repeatedly disturbed the passing game of the former German record champions. On the offensive, Paderborn remained harmless for a long time, but then set the decisive needle pricks with the double strike shortly before the half-time break.
