Sky customers can now stream the content of the new streaming service Peacock free of charge. Netzwelt reveals more about the sudden start of the US provider.

It has been clear for a long time that Peacock, NBCUniversal’s US streaming service, is to be launched in Germany. Nevertheless, the sudden start on January 25, 2022, which was only confirmed a day earlier, was surprising.
Streaming competitors such as Disney + or Apple TV + announced their start well in advance, but not only the announcement of Peacock’s start in Germany is significantly different. For the time being, Peacock will not be an independent streaming service in this country and Austria, but part of the Sky offer.
Sky subscribers who use the Entertainment, Entertainment Plus or Ultimate TV package can look forward to streaming Peacock content at no extra charge via Sky Q, Sky Ticket or Sky X.
This cooperation should be worthwhile for both sides, after all, Peacock is a streaming service that is relatively unknown in Germany and would have a hard time without help, while Sky needs new and exclusive titles, since the deal with Warner Bros. expires in a few years and HBO content, one the flagships of Sky, will disappear and move to HBO Max.
At the start, Peacock’s own productions such as “Saved by the Bell”, “Rutherford Falls” and “Girls5eva” should be available, “The Girl in the Woods”, “MacGruber”, “Joe vs. Carole”, “Bel-Air” and “The Resort” will follow later. Other Universal productions set to screen Peacock include:

It is not known if and when Peacock can also be used independently of Sky. Anyone who is interested in Peacock content but does not have a Sky subscription can continue to use Peacock’s US offering – with the help of a VPN service. In the US, Peacock offers a lot of content for free, with the cheapest subscription being $4.99 a month.
