Peaky Blinders: Cillian Murphy back in the film, filming scheduled for September

Just his Oscar for Oppenheimer in his pocket, Cillian Murphy is preparing to return to a shoot, and not just any one: that of the film Peaky Blinders. Steven Knight, creator of the cult series, has just confirmed that the feature film will launch production in the coming months, and that the interpreter of Tommy Shelby will indeed be back.

The Shelby family movie version

Questioned by our colleagues from the webzine Birmingham World, Steven Knight confirmed that the film project, long in the pipeline, will begin filming in September 2024 at Digbeth Loc Studios in Birmingham.

And while he had been rather evasive about Cillian Murphy’s involvement in the project, this time he was more categorical: “He will definitely be back for the film”did he declare.

While we will wait for an official announcement, this is excellent news for fans who have been waiting for a sequel to the adventures of the Shelby family for almost two years and the release of season 6 of the series.

Created by Steven Knight in 2013 and originally broadcast on the BBC, the series Peaky Blinders has become a true generational phenomenon in just a few years. In France, the program was first broadcast on Arte before taking up residence on the Netflix streaming platform, on which it is available in full. The first two seasons can also be seen on Amazon Prime Video.

As a reminder, the series tells the story, in 1919 in Birmingham, of members of the Shelby family nicknamed the Peaky Blinders. Tommy Shelby, the most dangerous of all, will have to fight to impose his domination and become the leader of the underworld.
