Peel almonds – step by step

  1. If the almonds are still surrounded by a shell, you have to crack first. The easiest way to do this is to place them in a nutcracker with the seam across the opening.
  2. Next, put the almonds in a saucepan and cover them with water. Brings the water to a boil and blanch them in it for a few minutes. Then you pour them into a sieve and scare them off with cold water.
  3. Now you can peel the almonds by using them presses between thumb and forefinger. The blanching already loosens the skin so that the almond kernel can easily slide out.

Tip: If you want to peel larger amounts of almonds, you can also use the blanched kernels wrap in a kitchen towel and rub vigorouslyso that the shell loosens itself. Now all you have to do is pick out the skinned almonds.

Peel the almonds in the microwave

As an alternative to the pot, you can also fill the almonds in a microwave-safe container, cover with water and cook in the microwave for a few minutes. Then you should quench them again with cold water, then the kernels can be skinned just as easily as described above.

Interesting facts about almonds

Almonds belong to the stone fruit and not, as is often assumed, to the family of nuts. The kernels are extremely healthy and rich in high quality fats, protein and fiber. They also have a lot of vitamin E and magnesium. However, 100 grams contain 576 kilocalories – so you should be almonds only eat in moderation. It is best to use organic quality kernels since they are not contaminated with pesticides.
