(Reuters) – A vice president cannot change the outcome of a presidential election, Mike Pence said on Friday, reacting to remarks by Donald Trump who has criticized him for many months for not having prevented Joe Biden from succeeding him .
After failing to be re-elected, the businessman had pressured his vice-president to block the certification of Joe Biden’s victory, which he refused to do.
“President Trump is wrong,” Mike Pence said in a speech in Florida to the Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy, a conservative organization.
“The presidency belongs to the American people and to them alone. And frankly, there is no idea more un-American than the notion that only one person can choose the American president,” added Mike Pence.
