Paper pulp prices up 17%

To explain this situation, we must look at the level of inflation on stationery products. This increase is largely driven by the evolution of the price of paper pulp, up 17% between the first quarter of 2022 and the first quarter of 2023 in France. Result, an average blaze of 14% on notebooks, sheets or binders but squared sheets are more expensive by around 30% over 1 year, points to UFC-Que Choisir. Artistic material (paint, brushes) increases by 9% on average, while scientific material (rulers, compasses) undergoes an increase of 8%.

Last year, at the same time, the Trade Union Confederation of Families (CSF) pointed out that households had been forced to spend less on school supplies.
