Pension reform: faced with a possible 49.3, some LRs are preparing a motion of censure

The first ballot in the Senate for the pension reform took place on the night of Friday to Saturday, with a majority of votes in favor of the bill. The next stage of its routing, the passage in joint joint committee, after which could occur a motion of censure on the part of the opposition.

On the night of Friday to Saturday, the deputies voted for or against the text of the pension reform in the Assembly. With 195 votes for and 112 against, the deputies are at least divided on the question and the trend can be seen within the parties themselves. This is the case of the Republicans, a small group of which is considering tabling a motion of censure, against the approval of the party leader, Éric Ciotti. By this, the right-wing deputies intend to rally as many supporters as possible to their opposition, regardless of the political group.

“A Martian would table a motion of censure, we would vote for it”

An initiative that managed to convince the deputy of the National Rally Sébastien Chenu. “We will vote for all the motions of censure, if there is use of 49.3, which will be presented, whatever the groups. We will only take care of the general interest. The general interest is that this reform does not pass. So even a Martian would table a motion of censure that we would vote for it”, he argues with conviction.

The task promises to be more difficult than it appears, because it takes 289 votes to adopt a motion of censure, that is to say more than half of all the deputies. For the moment, they are only 255 to have voted for it, without the Republicans, who hold the fate of the government in their hands.
