After the validation of the essentials of the pension reform by the Constitutional Council this Friday, the oppositions and the unions are refining their strategy to continue to make their anger heard. The option of dialogue with the executive is, for the time being, excluded by the inter-union, at least by May 1.

Unions and oppositions do not intend to drop the case. In the aftermath of the decision of the Constitutional Council, validating the essence of the pension reform, the opponents of the bill still display an intact determination. This Friday, all asked President Emmanuel Macron not to promulgate the law. The latter therefore risks having to face a hardening of the challenge and opposition for whom the decision of the Elders sounds like an additional defeat.

Concretely, the Nupes seeks to understand the reasons which led the Constitutional Council to reject the popular initiative referendum in the hope of filing a new request before the promulgation of the law which should take place in the coming days.

The unions are considering other forms of protest

On the side of the inter-union, without withdrawal of the text, no dialogue is possible with the executive, at least not before May 1. The unions have therefore rejected the Head of State, who had offered to meet them next Tuesday, and are considering new means of protest. Starting with the strike of Parisian garbage collectors, renewed since Thursday. A big day of mobilization will also take place on May 1st for Labor Day.

Until then, the government must deal with wild demonstrations and strong protest in the streets. As was the case Friday evening, in Paris and in the provinces, just after the announcement of the Constitutional Council.
