“Percy Jackson” is coming back to Disney+ in series form soon. Can we expect a guest appearance from former Annabeth Alexandra Daddario in the new adaptation?
- Disney is currently working on a series adaptation of the “Percy Jackson” novel series.
- The two feature films will not be continued, but will be overwritten by the series.
- Will we be seeing former Annabeth star Alexandra Daddario back on Disney+ soon?
With 5 successful novels and several other books from the same universe, Rick Riordan’s “Percy Jackson” series lends itself to a series of film adaptations. 20th Century Fox thought so too and therefore adapted the first two novels, but without much success.
The film rights to the books are now owned by Disney and they are working on a new start. However, the novels are now set to be turned into a series for Disney+, with each season telling the plot of a novel. Thus, the story can be told in great detail, because the books are all relatively short.
“Percy Jackson” fans are optimistic about the future, but they still have a long wait ahead of them. Although author Rick Riordan is actively involved in the scripts for the series, no actors have been hired and filming will not begin until summer 2022 at the earliest, which means a start in 2023.
In the podcast Unwrapped, Alexandra Daddario, who starred as Annabeth in both “Percy Jackson” films, spoke about a possible guest appearance in the series.
No! No, I loved Percy Jackson. […] And I learned so much and then had the career I wanted. And that’s incredible. I’m so excited for the kids that [für der Serie] be cast and a new generation […] become inspired. I mean it’s so cool, Annabeth is a really inspirational character to a lot of people. But no, I don’t know any more than that and I shouldn’t either. I was just a girl in the movie.
These days, remakes and reboots rarely come without cameos from previous cast members, but with “Percy Jackson” it actually makes more sense not to have such appearances. The new series is based solely on the books and not on the earlier films, so comparisons should not be drawn here and Disney will not want to refer to the films any further.
Disney will probably rely on young and still relatively unknown actors for the cast, only prominent names can perhaps be found for the gods. We’ll probably find out more about “Percy Jackson” in the course of the year, once filming has started. Until then, you will find many more highlights in the Disney+ novelty program.
