Perrine Kervran takes the helm of Arte Radio

Everyone will tell you: Arte Radio was Silvain Gire. Him, the boss, the father and the very spirit of this web radio, which he had co-founded in 2002 with Christopher Rault and whose 20th anniversary he had just celebrated at the very chic Palais de Tokyo, in Paris. And even if he could be harsh in his criticisms, everyone recognized his flair and his ear: “Sixty international awards, including thirteen Europa awards and eight Italia awards, an absolute record among public radio stations worldwide”, he liked to repeat. But now, Silvain Gire has decided to treat himself to a great vacation. He will be replaced by radio producer Perrine Kervran, from August 28, according to our information, confirmed by the person concerned.

Laboratory and sound oasis freed from the obligations of antenna and grids, Arte Radio can boast of having welcomed the sexual liberation movements of the 2000s, the renewal of feminist speech, reflections on life in the office, gender or ecology, such as “Un podcast à soi”, by Charlotte Bienaimé (230,000 monthly listens), or “Living happily before the end of the world”, by Delphine Saltel. Not to mention one of the latest recruits, a dancing zebra, and especially in the pale hours, Richard Gaitet, who, with his “Bookmakers”, is the best that has happened to literary criticism.

Silvain Gire, for his part, should continue to do radio and would like to return to his first love: writing, he who signed Johnny is deada collection of short stories published by Editions du Seuil in 2002.

An unchanged team

It was therefore Perrine Kervran who was chosen to take over the post. His name had been circulating for several weeks, and his candidacy was supported by Silvain Gire himself. Suffice to say, this is excellent news. Arrived at France Culture twenty-five years ago, trained by Emmanuel Laurentin (“The factory of history”), she imagined, in 2016, what is undoubtedly one of the greatest successes in terms of radio documentary: “LSD” (the documentary series), four hours of hand-sewn radio on subjects as varied as punk, Saint-Barthélemy, incest, ocean feeling, etc.

Before leaving, Perrine Kervran made sure that “LSD” would continue, thanks in particular to Maryvonne Abolivier, who was her faithful right arm.. For her part, she will officially take office on August 28 with an unchanged team: thus Chloé Assous-Plunian (production manager) and directors Samuel Hirsch, Arnaud Forest and Charlie Marcelet.
