You are what you eat? There is actually something to this saying – at least according to current research.

Sweet, salty, sour, bitter: As with so many things in life, tastes differ when it comes to food. While some people with a sweet tooth just can’t get enough of chocolate & co., others tend to prefer salty snacks.

A recent study even found that our preferences for certain tastes reveal something about our personality.

Bitter = antisocial?

A study of 953 Americans found that people who have a preference for bitter foods had higher levels of antisocial or psychopathic characteristics own. US researchers presented in a study finds that eating bitter food causes hostility. According to this, even people who are more psychopathic are said to like bitter food because of the discomfort the food causes others.

cute = cute?

Conceptual metaphors, like calling someone “cute” once they’re caring, aren’t all that far-fetched. Because actually says that conducted study, that sweet tooth with a greater prosociality connected is. According to this, eating sweet things can make us behave more helpfully towards others.

There should also be a difference between milk chocolate and dark chocolate: According to US scientists, those who use chocolate with a higher cocoa content more often should more sociable being whole milk lovers.

Fruits and Veggies = Happy?

More extroverted, more conscientious and happier are said to be those who eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. According to “Psychology Today”, this resulted in a study with more than 1,000 adults. A separate study also found that positive people preferred healthier foods.

Spicy = risk taker?

Anyone who has a penchant for spicy food will find it exciting to make their own to test limits. At least that’s what one says laboratory study, in which 114 men participated. So those who used more Tabasco in their mashed potatoes probably had more testosterone in their saliva.

caffeine = sensational?

On the hunt for the next sensation…are said to be those who have a deep taste for caffeine. That made one laboratory study with 20 adults. Researchers suspect that the stimulating effect of caffeine is behind this.

Picky = Anxious?

Also particularly exciting is the theory that people who refuse a lot of food and very picky are, a rather fearful should have personality. One study with 318 college students came to this conclusion. So should more anxious people have a greater number of food aversions. The reason: the lack of “emotional control”.
