Patrick Poivre d’Arvor is targeted by several complaints of rape and sexual assault. A scandal that erupted after an initial legal action by the writer Florence Porcel in February 2021. A case on which a special issue of Further investigation broadcast on France 2, this Thursday, April 28. Some 22 women testified to denounce the actions of the journalist to the Brigade for the repression of delinquency against the person (BRDP) and eight would have filed a complaint. Patrick Poivre d’Arvor refutes these accusations as a whole and has decided to reply. In a dossier consisting of 43 pages, consulted by Further investigation and France infoPatrick Poivre d’Arvor denounces the “excess” and the “drifts” generated “by the #MeToo wave”. And to add: “The means implemented to serve this legitimate objective (Editor’s note: the liberation of women’s speech) can turn out perverse and devastating.” The journalist calls the 16 women he has decided to prosecute as “journalists or writers in bad name and or late-breaking feministswho came to support a former colleague, a friend, or even a simple activist for the women’s cause.”
A first complaint for defamation closed without follow-up
Laure Heinich, the plaintiffs’ lawyer, reacted to the questioning of these 16 women. She denounced “a complaint for slanderous denunciation in outrageous terms that only overwhelm him“. The lawyer also clarified that her clients were eager to answer them “and to confront him in front of judges, which the prescription forbade them”. This is not the first time that Patrick Poivre d’Arvor has filed a complaint for defamation and slanderous denunciation. He had taken legal action against Florence Porcel after the latter had filed a complaint against him, accusing him of having imposed sexual intercourse in 2004 and fellatio in 2009. Both cases resulted in a classification without follow-up in June 2021. Florence Porcel was then a civil party, which led to the opening of a new investigation.
