Peter Pan & Wendy: Jude Law as Captain Hook in the Disney remake trailer

Ready to return to Neverland? This March 1, Disney unveiled the film’s first trailer, poster and release date. Peter Pan & Wendyremake of the animation classic, which is about to land on the Disney+ streaming platform on April 28.

Walt Disney continues to revisit its timeless classics. After The jungle Book (2016), The beauty and the Beast (2017), The Lion King (2019) or the terrible Pinocchio (2022), it’s the turn of Peter Pan to benefit from a live action adaptation, 70 years after the release of the original film (1953).

Here is the official synopsis of the film Peter & Wendy : “The film is the story of Wendy Darling, a young girl worried about leaving behind her childhood home, who meets Peter Pan, a boy who refuses to grow up. With her brothers and a little fairy, Tinker Bell, she travels with Peter to the magical world of Neverland. In the course of her adventures, she will meet an evil pirate captain, Captain Hook, and live adventures as thrilling as they are perilous, far from her family and her home.

Good news, this version seems to avoid the stupid copy-paste and offers a more current rereading, placing Wendy (Ever Anderson) as the true heroine of the adventure, alongside the mischievous character created by JM Barrie. But the focus of the Peter Pan story has always been its iconic villain, Captain Hook, played here by a Jude Law (The Holiday, sherlock holmes) dark and intriguing. Promising.

The other source of satisfaction — and hope — is the presence of the talented David Lowery in writing the screenplay. The American filmmaker behind the magnificent A Ghost Story And The Green Knight had already signed the proofreading of Peter and Elliott the dragon in 2016, which had the merit of offering a refreshing vision of the Disney classic.

Along with Jude Law, Peter Pan & Wendy also counts Ever Anderson (Wendy), Alexander Molony (Peter Pan), Yara Shahidi (Tinkerbell), Alan Tudyk (Mr. Darling), Molly Parker (Mrs. Darling) and Jim Gaffigan (Mouche) in its cast. In addition to the trailer, Disney unveiled a new poster.

A JM Barrie creation that first appeared in 1902, Peter Pan quickly became one of literature’s most popular heroes. His adventures have seen numerous theatrical adaptations, in live-action and animated film, such as the 1953 Disney classic.

Peter Pan & Wendy will be available on April 28, 2023 on the Disney+ streaming platform.
