The Peugeot 3008 compact SUV is one of the brand’s best sellers at the Lion. In order to succeed in its transition to all-electric, it is essential for Stellantis that the future e-3008 manages to place itself in a very competitive segment where the Tesla Model Y seems to reign supreme.
If we already know what the interior of the future 3008 will look like and that it will opt for a cut bodywork, uncertainty still hangs over the characteristics of the electrified version.
The Stellantis Group has revealed the four platforms that will form the basis of its future electric vehicles. The STLA Small platform is thus intended more for city and compact cars, while the Large version should serve as a basis for large cars like the future electric muscle car from Dodge. For its part, the e-3008 would operate the STLA Medium version, which would display a battery capacity ranging from 87 kWh to 104 kWh for a maximum range of 700 km.
A battery with a net capacity of around 90 kWh is therefore possible for top-of-the-range models, allowing a range of over 600 km. This would allow the electric coupe SUV to compete with the tenors of the segment, in particular the Tesla Model Y, which displays 455 km of autonomy in the basic version and up to 533 km for the Long Autonomy.
All-wheel drive and over 300 horsepower
On the engine side, it’s a safe bet that Peugeot will leave the choice between a single powertrain or a duo of engines offering all-wheel drive. In terms of power, the basic version should use the 156 horsepower engine already present on the brand’s other cars such as the Peugeot e-308.
For high-end finishes, the e-3008 should opt for an engine on each train, offering transmission to all four wheels, while the cumulative power should easily exceed 200 horsepower. We even begin to dream of a version equipped with the EDM#3 engine as allowed by the platform, for a cumulative power exceeding 400 horsepower.
To succeed in the transition to all-electric, Peugeot must not miss its next electric e-3008. The competition formed by the Model Y but also by the Skoda Enyaq Coupé IV, Volkswagen ID.4 or Hyundai Ioniq 5 is fierce and the price positioning of the SUV at the Lion will be essential. As such, a range ranging from €50,000 to more than €70,000 is possible. We are waiting for the official presentation in September to find out if the e-3008 really gets its fangs out, or if the coupe SUV will still be just a lion cub when it hits the road.
