Peugeot unveils the first images of its e-5008 7-seater electric SUV


Like its second generation, the third version of the Peugeot 5008 will be derived from the very popular 3008. The latter recently offering a new electric version e-3008, it will be the same for the next 5008. Peugeot is already revealing some images of it, for ‘moment focused on the interior of the model.

In a short video, the lion brand gives different glimpses of its e-5008 in high-end GT finish. We discover a presentation very close to that of the latest 3008, with the new interpretation of the famous i-Cockpit in the form of a 21″ curved slab. It brings together the central infotainment screen and the instrument cluster, always to look over a small steering wheel. The integrated voice assistant will now rely on ChatGPT to answer certain questions from passengers.

This teaser confirms that a seven-seater configuration is still on the program. On the other hand, the central place in row 2 seems less hollow and seems to have lost width, while the current 5008 is one of the rare SUVs to offer three real places in its second row of seats.

Hybrid, plug-in hybrid, electric, but no diesel

We will have to wait for the official presentation of the e-5008 scheduled for March to find out more. The exterior of the car should adopt the codes of the latest 3008, but moving away somewhat from the silhouette of the compact SUV. With its third generation, the 3008 has in fact become a coupe SUV, while the 5008 should retain a more traditional line.

From the 3008, it will inherit the new STLA Medium multi-energy platform. It will allow the e-5008 to receive up to 98 kWh of batteries, for a maximum range which can be estimated at around 500 km, and configurations with one or two electric motors (traction or 4×4). The thermal versions should benefit from two levels of hybridization: 48 V hybrid or rechargeable hybrid.

The previous generation of 5008 was not entitled to the plug-in hybrid versions of the 3008, certainly because of the difficulty of integrating their battery without sacrificing the third row of seats of its big brother. The new 5008 would, however, benefit from a plug-in hybrid version, thanks to the installation of its battery under the front seats. It should have the difficult task of compensating for the absence of a diesel engine in the range.

With a similar size, the future electric e-5008 will compete in particular with the Tesla Model Y. The latter unfortunately does not offer its seven-seater version in Europe, which should leave a strong argument for the e-5008. It will need at least that to compensate for an expected higher price, since the e-3008, available from €44,990, is already more expensive than the Model Y, priced from €42,990. The e-5008 is also likely to weigh extremely heavy, with the e-3008 already exceeding 2.1 t.
