With 73 caps for the national team, the man who was captain of the XV de la Rose on several occasions notably made the heyday of Gloucester and obtained the nickname “Raging Bull” for his tenacity on the pitch. Despite his brilliant career and a comfortable lifestyle, the Englishman is currently going through difficult times and at 48, he finds himself with a huge cumulative debt of nearly 115,000 euros from a company in the process of being liquidated. According to the English media, Phil Vickery, who was world champion in 2003 with England, was forced to declare his insolvency to the State. A personal bankruptcy which will force the former pillar to repay his debts, in particular by reselling his property.
Not the first athlete to have money problems
An entrepreneur since the end of his sporting career in 2010, the latter was forced to resign from at least 4 companies for which he worked, notably his own gesture consultancy firm. A very sad story, but Phil Vickery is not the only former sportsman to have had serious money problems. In an interview with Le Parisien in 2022, former Paris Saint-Germain footballer Ludovic Giuly explained that he had been the victim of a multi-million euro scam. A problematic situation for the French international, who lost very big in this story. “We calculated that if I had not paid these 5.3 million investments, I would have avoided losing 2.7 million! I clearly feel like I was defrauded”he explained to our colleagues.
