Philips announces a new range of TVs with mini LED and Ambilight


Philips organized an event to present its new television ranges for 2023. In addition to the OLED series, we discovered its new Mini-LED and LED series, respectively bearing the marketing names The Xtra and The One. They will be available this fall from 43 to 75 inches and here are all the details.

Philips has revealed four new TV series, in addition to the OLED+908 and OLED808 series. The new The Xtra series is inaugurated by the Philips MiniLED PML9308 model, which displays Ultra HD definition at 120 Hz and is available in 55 and 65 inches (with references 55PML9308 and 65PML9308 respectively) from the third quarter of 2023.

This range benefits from a MiniLED backlighting system and a P5 processor with a promised peak brightness of 1000 cd/m². The 55-inch model has 80 zones while the 65-inch version has 144 independent zones. Bowers & Wilkins 2.1 sound system with 64 watts, Ambilight on all three sides are also included.

We can count on the presence of two HDMI 2.1 inputs supporting eARC, VRR, ALLM, FreeSync Premium Pro and HFR Ultra HD at 120 Hz technologies. There is also a brightness sensor which automatically adapts the color temperature according to depending on the lighting conditions and its color. The televisions are compatible HDR10+ adaptive and Dolby Vision in order to satisfy all streaming platforms.

The Xtra MiniLED PML9008 series comes in 55, 65 and 75 inches and also uses the P5 processor with as high peak brightness as the PML9308 series. We can count on the presence of the same light sensor to automatically optimize the rendering of the image. There are also two HDMI 2.1 inputs supporting the same technologies as the PML9308 series. The TVs are HDR10+ Adaptive and Dolby Vision compatible. The audio system is type 2.0 with a power of 40 watts and the feet are stick-shaped in anthracite gray.

The “The One” range featuring an LED backlighting system is expanding with the 8808 and 8508 series equipped with the new generation P5 chipset. The 8808 series will be available in 43, 50, 55, 65, 75 and 85 inches, while the 8508 series will be offered in 43, 50, 55 and 65 inches. The 8808 series is equipped with a 120 Hz Ultra HD panel, unlike the 8508 series which stops at 60 Hz. Both series benefit from Ambilight on three sides. The 8808 series has thin anthracite edges with a brushed effect on the lower part of the screen and a swivel stand for sizes 43 to 65 inches. The 75 and 85 inch sizes are equipped with two inverted V-shaped legs.

All these new series are accompanied by the new backlit Philips remote control, more compact than the previous ones and ignoring the numbered buttons for more ergonomics and ease of use.

As with Philips OLED models, exact availability dates and pricing will be announced later this year.
