No more Google TV, Phillips adopts a new operating system. The television manufacturer is embarking on a new adventure with Titan OS.
TP Vision, the group managing the brands Philips And AOC in Europe and Latin America, initiated a new project in Barcelona, Spain. The objective? Create an alternative operating system to market giants like Google TV, webOS, Tizen, or Fire TV OS. Titan OS, that’s its name, represents an attempt to stand out in a field where many manufacturers have adopted Google TV (TCL, Sony, etc.).
The impetus for this project comes from TPV Technology, parent company of TP Vision, of Chinese origin. They are partnering with the founder of Wuaki.TV and former CEO of Rakuten TV.
Titan OS will integrate popular apps
To date, the technical details of Titan OS remain little known. The question is whether it’s based on a modified version of Android, like Amazon’s Fire TV. However, what is confirmed is that Titan OS will integrate popular apps such as Disney+, Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, Pluto TV and DAZN. It also meets the latest standards for data security and privacy. We hope that the OS supports the different standards sought, and the technologies too (Chromecast, AirPlay, etc.).
The company behind Titan OS isn’t just offering yet another operating system. It aims to offer a distinct and enriched user experience to differentiate itself from its competitors. Philips is also looking to explore new sources of revenue linked to partnerships and advertising.
Titan OS is scheduled to launch in 2024, where it will gradually be integrated into Philips and AOC TVs. Moreover, this also echoes Panasonic’s decision to switch to Fire TV for its televisions.
