Philips Hue and Philips Hue BT apps set to merge soon

The use of two different connection types by Philips Hue products had led to the creation of two separate control apps. We learn that they should very soon merge to make life easier for the user… as well as for the developers.

By force of circumstances, Philips had been forced to launch two separate applications for the control of its Hue devices, dedicated to the connected home. We learn this week from the site Domo-Blog that the thing should evolve for the better, with the merger of these two applications into one. Clearly, the Philips Hue BT app should soon disappear in favor of the main Philips Hue app. Everything would then happen on the latter.

As a reminder, the Hue BT app is used to control Philips Hue bulbs with Bluetooth technology (introduced on Hue products launched from 2020), while the main Philips Hue app is used for lights managed by the bridge. traditional connection.

More comfort for the user… and less wasted time for the developers

However, the presence of two applications running side by side is problematic, both for the user and for the development teams of Philips and its Signify branch. At present, the group’s developers must indeed combine the update of two applications in parallel, with the complications that this can involve for the addition of functionalities… and the significant workload that results from it.

For the final consumer, this situation is not ideal either. In addition to the confusion that may exist between the two applications, some users are indeed forced to regularly switch from one app to another if their installation mixes Bluetooth and a connection bridge.

As indicated Domo-blog, the merger between Philips Hue and Philips Hue BT should anyway be made soon. Expected with version 4.11 of the application, launched recently, it has not yet been finalized. Philips would therefore like to take the time to tweak… and perhaps find a really practical solution for the hybrid installations mentioned above.
