Aside from the three Philips OLED series that we presented earlier, the brand communicated on the renewal of its televisions at the best quality/price ratio with The Xtra and The One ranges.
In addition to the presentation of its PUS8909 (The One) and PML9049 (The Xtra) and its OLED catalog during a press conference in Barcelona, Philips created a surprise by announcing the arrival of Titan OS, a new system operating system which will be present on the series The One and The Xtra.
Philips The Xtra: the Mini-LED at an attractive price
With its Ambilight televisions and its know-how in video processing, Philips has established itself as a solid alternative on the TV market. The brand, owned by TPV Technology and its subsidiary TP Vision, is continuing its efforts in particular by offering ranges that emphasize value for money.
Launched in 2023, The Promoted as a product offering a level of performance just below the brand’s OLED televisions, The Xtra uses Mini-LED technology with FALD backlighting for better brightness management. Precisely, the brightness is announced with a peak of 1,000 cd/m², while the panel would be capable of covering 98% of the DCI-P3 space and allows a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz.
Among the new features, the new Titan OS interface, already mentioned in a previous article, as well as the integration of the latest P5 AI Dual Engine processor. The latter benefits from more or less the same innovations as the OLED series in order to find an image borrowing from the expertise of Philips engineers.
Philips The One: the brand’s most popular range
The One televisions, or PUS8909, have proven to be the most popular in the Philips catalog in previous years. The One concept of bringing together all the functionalities and technologies necessary to create a model that is both efficient and affordable is renewed for 2024 and available with five diagonals, 43, 50, 55, 65 and 75 inches.
We will find the P5 processor, a 144 Hz LCD panel equipped with a Direct LED backlighting system and, like the other references in the catalog, support for HDR10+, HDR HLG and Dolby Vision formats. Finally, it will integrate Titan OS as a Smart TV platform. At this time, we do not know exactly what services and features will be available there, but we should have more details in the coming weeks.
Let’s finish by mentioning the unmissable Ambilight which is of course on the program for The Xtra like The One. The Philips lighting system takes place on three sides of these televisions to offer a more immersive experience.
Seen as one of the historic electronics manufacturers in Europe, Philips nevertheless abandoned its television branch 10 years ago in favor of the TPV Technology group (TP Vision), from Hong Kong. In reality, however, this has not changed much for the consumer, the strategy, the name of the brand and the technologies which distinguish it having been preserved. If TPV is not a name known to the general public, the Asian manufacturer is still doing well, particularly with its brand of AOC monitors, but above all by being one of the largest manufacturers of LCD panels in the world.
