Picnic Recipes: Tips for sandwiches and sandwiches
- The ideal types of bread for a picnic: Toast and farmer’s bread, bagels, grain rolls and pretzel sticks are ideal for a picnic because they are stable enough and therefore do not crumble during transport.
- Variants with meat or sausage: Herb butter, Dijon cream (a mixture of mustard and mayonnaise), mango chutney, red or green pesto are suitable for spreading. It tastes good on it: fried pork fillet and ready-made antipasti (eggplant, grilled peppers), Pork Rinds, ham and gherkins, salami and rocket or thin slices of apple.
- If it should be with cheese: As a basis, figs are particularly delicious or sweet mustard, quince jelly and cream cheese. That tastes good on it: Camembert, semi-hard and hard cheese (Gouda, Emmental, Comté, butter cheese), with walnuts, pear slices (e.g. from firm Williams Christ pears) or dried fruit.
- Better not for the picnic: Bread with a lot of grains falls apart easily at a picnic. Homemade mayonnaise from raw eggs: be careful! risk of salmonella. Meat that is not cooked through, such as roast beef or raw fish, spoils quickly when it is hot. Very mature cheese smells and melts at a picnic.

Salad know-how for picnic fans
- Fixed varieties like Iceberg and romaine lettuce, chicory or radicchio are more suitable than e.g. E.g. green lettuce – the tender leaves quickly collapse.

- Freshly squeezed fruit juice (lemon, orange), pureed fruit (pineapple, cherry, raspberry, strawberry) or wine freeze in ice cube trays. The cubes even turn tap water into cool drinks! If you add a pot of mint, the decoration is also perfect.
- Alcohol-free cocktails are also a nice drink for a successful picnic.
- Boil a strong tea, sweeten it and freeze it in cubes. With mineral water, it becomes a delicious iced tea. Especially delicious: Yogi teas!
- Clever: Soft drink, beer or wine bottles replace those in the cooler bag cooling elementsif they are placed in the freezer before the picnic (soft drinks and beer approx. 20 minutes, wine and Prosecco no longer than 30 minutes).

Tips for quick snacks for an impromptu picnic
- In Turkish delicatessens and supermarkets there are rolls made of filo dough filled with minced meat, spinach or feta. Also delicious cold: The thin Turkish pizzas (lahmacun) are rolled up and eaten out of the hand.
- In the supermarket Buy cheese and cold cuts at the counter. In addition cucumbers, olives, pickled tomatoes or other antipasti (fresh or from the jar), cherry tomatoes, apples and a baguette. Yoghurt chocolate for dessert (which of course tastes best chilled in summer).
- Better not: Sushi from the refrigerated counter spoils quickly in the summer heat. If you don’t want to eat it right away or don’t have a cool bag with you for transport, keep your hands off!
