Pierre Palmade in pre-trial detention: this disturbing element that tipped the scales

Pierre Palmade will be remanded in custody, announced the Paris Court of Appeal on Monday, February 27. An important decision since it was estimated that there was a risk of repeat driving under the influence of cocaine.

Pierre Palmade is at the origin of a terrible car accident which took place on February 10, 2023. While he was driving his car, in Seine-et-Marne, the comedian deported in the left lane, hitting another vehicle head-on. He seriously injured a pregnant woman, who later lost her baby, a man and his six-year-old son. Victims marked for life by this tragedy. For his part, Pierre Palmade is the subject of two investigations and the Paris Court of Appeal has ordered his remand in custody this Monday, February 27. As RMC explains, these are two important elements that were taken into account for this decision: “The risk of repetition and the need to preserve ongoing investigations“, can we read. Indeed, the comedian was under the influence of cocaine at the time of the facts and the three magistrates considered that he might have to start over, if he was free. In addition, this case is the subject of a lot of media coverage and the slightest leak could disrupt the investigation.

Pierre Palmade was indicted for homicide and involuntary injuries and he is also being investigated for child pornography. Since this terrible accident, the comedian has been talking about him on a daily basis and he was wearing an electronic bracelet. Two days ago, he suffered a stroke and was treated at the Kremlin-Bicêtre hospital, where his bracelet was cut. Thus, the decision of the Paris Court of Appeal changes the situation. “The decision is immediately enforceable“, wrote the Paris prosecutor general in a press release. It is now the turn of the Melun prosecutor to have to inquire with the prison administration to determine to which establishment Pierre Palmade will be transferred. However, if his vital prognosis is not engaged, the comedian will not yet be able to go to prison since he is still being treated for his stroke. Only doctors can say that his state of health is compatible with detention.
