With its Pixel 8, Google has launched a new editing tool in its Photos gallery: Magic Editor. You have to see the latter for a sort of evolution of Magic Eraser, the magic eraser. Using AI, the functionality allows you to perform a number of previously impossible actions, such as modifying the sky in a photo, moving or modifying the size of an element, or even completely deleting an object. or a person.
Except that, as is often the case with Google, this new functionality is currently exclusive to the Pixel 8, the latest arrivals in the manufacturer’s range of smartphones. But that could soon change. Indeed, by digging a little into the source code of Google Photos, we can see new lines of code which clearly suggest that the Mountain View firm plans to extend the availability of the Magic Editor.

Indeed, the lines show that Google will introduce the functionality on other Android smartphones. Better yet, it looks like the Magic Editor will be available for free. As a reminder, Pixel 8 users must currently subscribe to a paid Google One subscription to benefit from it. This is therefore excellent news for all Android users, who will not have to pay to edit their images.
At least, to a certain extent. Indeed, there is still a small catch to this nice proposal from Google. Magic Editor will certainly be available for free, but users will be limited by a maximum number of saves. Every month, they will have a quota for modifying Magic Editor. When trying to overtake them, Google Photos will invite them to sign up for a Google One subscription to unlock more backups. It is not yet clear when Google plans to roll out its feature.
