Pixel Tablet: discover the touch tablet that prefers to stay at home

Unveiled at the I/O conference last May, the new tablet from Google is amazing in more ways than one. The reason ? A hybrid concept that is as much a traditional touch pad as a connected speaker.

After having succeeded in establishing itself on the smartphone market thanks to its Pixels, Google is now starting a breakthrough towards that of touch pads. And the least we can say is that with its Pixel Tablet, the manufacturer has decided to be original. Much more than a simple touch pad, the latest from Google aims to settle in the heart of the house to fulfill many roles.

You need a secondary screen, a connected speaker or a home automation control panel, the Pixel Tablet can take care of it. How ? Thanks to a technical sheet that takes advantage of all the know-how of Google, and the presence of a magnetic support with speaker that makes all the difference.

A real “Hub” in the center of the house

To set its tablet apart from the competition, Google has given it a little extra that the others don’t have: a base that hides its game rather well. ‘a charging station in the making, but a little more in-depth study reveals that this is not the case.

If this base can actually accommodate (thanks to an ingenious magnet system) and recharge the Pixel Tablet, it contains above all a powerful sound system which is based on a large 43.5 mm loudspeaker. Once associated, the tablet and the base offer a very versatile device, a kind of hub, capable of fulfilling many functions within your home:

  • a speaker : the speakers present in the base, once coupled with the quadraphonic audio system of the tablet, make it possible to obtain a clear sound, endowed with nice bass to broadcast music;
  • a real connected assistant: like Google’s connected speakers, the Pixel Tablet makes it easy to interact with the manufacturer’s voice assistant;
  • one screen for all your content: Installed in landscape mode on its base, the Pixel Tablet turns into a connected screen. An ideal mode for consulting a cooking recipe or streaming a video from a smartphone thanks to the integrated Chromecast;
  • a video “telephone”: thanks to its camera and its three microphones, the Pixel Tablet makes it possible to make quality video calls, whether on Google Meet or other;
  • a home automation control panel: the Pixel Tablet also provides access to Google Home to easily control all connected devices installed in the home. A restricted mode, requiring no authentication, is even available for guests to access basic features;
  • a digital photo frame: (yes it still exists) at rest, the tablet displays a selection of photos. Your latest holiday photos with friends?

A powerful tablet to accompany you in all your uses

If the Pixel Tablet takes on all its flavor once connected to its base, it is also quite possible to use it as a traditional tablet. Google has also not skimped on the technical sheet of its first tablet, installing under the hood what the manufacturer has the best to offer.

The Pixel Tablet configuration revolves around a Google Tensor G2 chip. A CPU that has already proven itself, as Numerama had pointed out during the tests of the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro. It is supplemented here by 8 GB of RAM and 128 to 256 GB of storage depending on the model. A completely honest configuration, which allows it to manage most applications, including games. To top it all off, Google plans to provide it with Pixel security updates for the next five years.

Regarding the display, the manufacturer has opted for an 11-inch panel with a definition of 2,560 by 1,600 pixels. A diagonal that provides a comfortable viewing experience, especially when the tablet is installed on its base. In nomadic mode, Google has given its tablet a long battery life: nearly 12 hours in video mode according to the manufacturer’s data.

Fully integrated into the Pixel ecosystem, and more broadly, with Android smartphones or Chromebooks, the Pixel Tablet is an asset in terms of productivity. Proximity sharing makes it possible, for example, to simply exchange photos, videos, contacts or documents. A simple, fast and above all secure process, since this tablet has a Titan M2 security chip, as well as a fingerprint locking system.
