After a long wait, Google’s first own smartwatch is now available. Wear OS 3.5 is included as the operating system, but what about future updates? Google takes a similar step here as with its Pixel phones and offers a guarantee. However, Samsung is already a step further.
Google Pixel Watch: 3-year update guarantee
Google just introduced its Pixel Watch. It is the group’s first smartwatch, which of course also has Wear OS. The question about future updates Google has meanwhile also answered for the mobile operating system. Owners can look forward to full support for a period of three years.
In plain language, this means that anyone who buys a Pixel Watch will receive it according to official information from Google new versions of Wear OS and security updates until at least October 2025 uploaded to his watch (source: Google). The situation is similar with Pixel smartphones, although the three years after the introduction only refer to updates for the operating system. Google will continue to distribute security updates for two more years. This is not to be expected with the Pixel Watch.
In the area of Wear OS, an update guarantee over three years is a positive feature, but the competition from Samsung goes one step further with its Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 5. If you own one of the smartwatches, you can look forward to four years of Wear OS updates.

Google Pixel Watch from 379 euros
The Pixel Watch is available for pre-order now in Matte Black, Polished Silver, and Champagne Gold colors and will officially launch on October 13, 2022.
