After the crash of a transport plane at Grenchen SO Airport, the Federal Prosecutor’s Office has opened criminal proceedings against a person.
This is due to suspicion of disrupting public transport.
The pilot died in the crash in February.
The criminal proceedings are also being conducted on suspicion of negligent homicide, as confirmed by the Federal Prosecutor’s Office. The various investigative actions are ongoing as part of this criminal procedure. The accused person is presumed innocent.
The transport plane crashed near Grenchen Airport on the afternoon of February 18th. While the pilot was fatally injured, a parachutist suffered minor injuries. A total of eleven parachutists jumped out of the plane.
Parachutist tore off horizontal stabilizer
The Swiss Safety Investigation Board (Sust) published a preliminary report on the plane crash this week.
This preliminary report sheds light on the background to the accident: When the parachutists were being dropped off, the reserve parachute of a parachutist who was still on the aircraft opened unintentionally. The parachutist subsequently collided with the horizontal stabilizer. The horizontal stabilizer was completely torn off the plane – and the plane crashed. The pilot was not wearing a rescue parachute.
