Plants vs. Zombies: a solo adventure game canceled by EA, for a Star Wars game also aborted

Plants vs. Zombies was a successful franchise, which knew how to renew itself with the garden warfare notably. A few years ago, the license sold, and Electronic Arts obviously intended to propose a unique experience, with action and single-player adventure. But Project Hot Tub ofEA Vancouver never saw the light of day.

This is IGN who relates this story, with concept art and supporting development footage, even claiming to have seen 20 minutes of gameplay that he cannot share. Project Hot Tubin reference to the movie Hot Tub Time Machine (The Time Machine), featured Eddie and her sister Tessaon holiday at Neighborville as zombies have just invaded the city. The player will have mainly embodied Eddiealong with Peashooterthe franchise’s mascot, although other plants could have been used, while Tessa and Thyme Warpanother plant, would have been playable during a few runs. The game, strongly inspired by Uncharted with open corridors, was intended to be general public, addressing both children and adultsand its development would have started in 2015. But Electronic Arts decided to place EA Vancouver on developing a single-player game Star Wars following the closure of Visceral Games. Yes, this same game canceled shortly after, the developers were then replaced on other projects ofEA Gamesburying the hopes of one day seeing this Project Hot Tub ended.

Today, the franchise has lost quite a bit of its luster, between Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville (at 25 € on Amazon) which was quickly forgotten and Plants vs. Zombies 3 always in soft launch in a few countries only… Suffice to say that this canceled title will have breathed new life into the saga.
