PlatinumGames: an emblematic figure leaves the studio, should we fear for the future of certain projects?

Video game creators leaving the company they partly founded is not that rare, but it always leaves a bitter taste in the mouth and the news of the day will probably not please part of the community gaming enjoying the productions of PlatinumGames. In fact, we have just learned thatHideki Kamiya will leave the company within two weeks…The director of Bayonetta, then screenwriter on all the other episodes including Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demonand other games like Wonderful 101 And Sol Cresta will therefore sail towards new horizons, he who was also vice-president of the studio.

Here is the translation of the press release issued by PlatinumGames :

We regret to announce that Hideki Kamiya will leave PlatinumGames on October 12, 2023.

We are truly grateful for his creative ideas, leadership and contribution to the growth of PlatinumGames from our inception to today.

We believe he will continue to be successful in his future endeavors as a game creator. We look forward to seeing the gaming industry evolve to a better place with him. We wish him all the best for the future!

On his account Twitter staff, Hideki Kamiya shared two messages in English to comment on this announcement, which is quite rare since he generally speaks only in Japanese on the platform.

As announced on the PlatinumGames official However, I think this is the best possible outcome. I will continue to create in the style of Hideki Kamiya. I hope you will keep your eyes peeled.

Hideki Kamiya was the director of a still very mysterious game called Project GG, which could therefore suffer from its departure if it has not already been canceled. Additionally, in an interview last December withIGNhe expressed his wish to pitch Bayonetta 4 And Bayonetta 5 at the studio while declaring that PlatinumGames could well make nine in total. Suffice it to say that he must have had plot plans for the rest of the license, which will therefore not come to fruition with him. Obviously, we can’t imagine it being put aside for all that.

Let’s just hope that this does not hide an internal change of direction at the studio with which he would not have agreed, which had expressed its wish to turn to service games, even if the bitter failure of Babylon’s Fall must have taught him some lessons.

If you like games PlatinumGames, Bayonetta 3 is sold €32.50 on Amazon.
