Play Store: Google allows simultaneous downloading of several applications

Google recently rolled out an update to the Play Store, allowing users to download two apps at the same time on their Android devices. This possibility, often requested by the Android user community, aims to make the application download process faster.

Whereas previously, users had to wait for an application to be completely downloaded and installed before being able to download another, this new Play Store update now allows you to start downloading two applications simultaneously. This improvement is particularly useful when setting up a new phone or tablet, saving significant time.

However, it should be noted that this function is currently limited to two applications simultaneously. If a user tries to download a third application, it will wait until one of the first two is installed. Compared to Apple’s AppStore, which allows the downloading of three applications at the same time, this limit may seem modest, but nevertheless constitutes an advance in the user experience.

Also note that this new feature only applies to new application installations, and not to updates. These remain confined to a sequential process for the moment, but it cannot be ruled out that Google will extend this improvement to updates in the future.

Finally, this Play Store update is currently deployed on several Pixel smartphones and tablets running Android 14, with version 40.6.31 of the Play Store. Although some users may not yet have access to it due to the gradual rollout, this feature should be available to most users in the near future.
