Expected for April 4 on Netflix, the series “Ripley” features actor Andrew Scott in the shoes of Tom Ripley, a leading character in literature and cinema. Check out the trailer.
It was in 1960, in front of René Clément’s camera, that Alain Delon seduced the whole world. In Full Sun, he plays, with charm and danger, the character of Tom Ripley, a born manipulator. To find a place for himself, this man is ready to do anything, especially to literally take over the lives of others. Behind this fictional myth, there is a woman, the author Patricia Highsmith, who published the book in 1955, Mister Ripleyadapted for the screen many times.
A very present role in the cinema
The most recent of these adaptations is coming soon to Netflix and in series form. Simply titled Ripley, it features the crook in Italy in the sixties as he approaches a rich heir to take his place and enjoy all his pleasures. Actor Andrew Scott plays the title role. He therefore succeeds Alain Delon, but also Matt Damon, John Malkovich and Barry Pepper.
In recent years, Andrew Scott has been more and more present on screens – both young and old. He was the seductive priest in the Fleabag series, the Moriarty in the Sherlock series, but he also appeared in many prestigious projects like Specter and 1917 by Sam Mendes. He is currently at the cinema in the drama Without ever knowing us with Paul Mescal.
Black and white
With Ripley, Netflix – which has just revealed the new trailer – seems to be taking a real artistic bias. The entire series is in black and white, capturing a dreamlike Italy in which each shot resembles a photograph.

At the helm of the project, screenwriter Steven Zaillian signs all the episodes. He is notably the author of the series The Night Of, but also of numerous screenplays such as Millénium by David Fincher and The Irishman by Martin Scorsese, also available on Netflix.
Ripley appears to be re-adapting the first book in Patricia Highsmith’s series. Alongside Andrew Scott, we will find Dakota Fanning, Johnny Flynn, but also John Malkovich in a secondary role.
