North Korea warns USA of escalation
The renewed North Korean missile test on Tuesday brings the UN Security Council together behind closed doors. A reaction that the government in Pyongyang does not like at all. The US regime has announced that it will face “serious consequences”.
North Korea threatens “more serious and serious consequences” following the condemnation of the recent missile launch by the US and the United Nations (UN). The government in Washington has taken “extremely provocative steps” by calling the test a violation of UN Security Council resolutions and a threat to peace and stability in the region, a State Department spokesman in Pyongyang told the KCNA news agency.
The United States and the Council could face “more serious and serious consequences” if they chose to act inappropriately. North Korea warned the US against “playing with a ticking time bomb”.
According to its own information, North Korea’s test of a submarine missile was not directed at the United States. The spokesman criticized the reactions of the UN Security Council and the USA to the missile test as “nonsensical”. Instead, it is a “legitimate” plan to strengthen self-defense. “It is a clear double standard that the United States denounces us because we have developed and tested the same weapons system that they already have or are developing,” the State Department spokesman for KCNA is quoted as saying. He also questioned the recent statement by the US government that North Korea is not hostile.
UN sees “patterns of provocation”
After the recent Pyongyang missile test, members of the UN Security Council met behind closed doors in New York on Wednesday. “The rocket launch (…) is part of a pattern of provocations by North Korea,” said the UN ambassadors of council members France, Ireland and Estonia on Wednesday. They called on the country to abide by the UN sanctions that have been imposed on it. The representatives of the USA and Great Britain made similar statements. However, there has not yet been a joint statement.
North Korea’s leadership had a ballistic missile tested for the eighth time this year on Tuesday. As the state news agency KCNA reported, the latest missile is said to be a submarine-based ballistic missile “new type”, which “brings the country’s defense technology to a high level and improves the underwater operational capability of our navy.” UN resolutions prohibit North Korea from testing ballistic missiles, which, depending on their design, can also carry a nuclear warhead.
