After a botched opening third, Zug United turned things around in the playoff quarter-finals in Malans. Within 13 minutes, the guests turned a 0-2 deficit into a 4-2 lead. The outstanding northerners in the Zug ranks were particularly responsible for this: Albin Sjögren, Robert Nilsberth and Sami Johansson.
The Swedish top scorer Sjögren reduced the score to 1:2 with a direct shot in the 26th minute and Severin Nigg made it 3:2 with a quickly executed free kick. Meanwhile, Johansson equalized in the 33rd minute and was credited with an assist for Raphael Neidhart’s goal to make it 4-2. Nilsberth also shone with two assists.
Winning goal in the 59th minute
In the final third, Alligator Malans reared up again to avert the impending end of the season. In the 48th minute, Joshua Schnell brought the tension back with a deflection in the power play, and 6 turns of the pointer later, top scorer Tomi Jerkku even equalized to make it 4:4.
The momentum was on Graubünden’s side in the final phase, but it took a sudden turn in the 59th minute. Christoph Camenisch earned a penalty, which the Zug team promptly took advantage of 30 seconds later. After Sjögren’s assist, Nigg scored the decisive 5:4. The cup winner is the second team after Floorball Thurgau to reach the playoff semi-finals.
GC is shaking in the semi-finals
GC also ended the quarter-final series against Köniz with a narrow victory. The Zurich team won game 6 with the Bernese team 6:5. Shortly before the end, Köniz made the Zurich team sweat again. However, Nino Bühler’s connecting goal 14 seconds before the end of the game came too late.
Game 6 between the Tigers Langnau and Wiler-Ersigen will also take place from 7 p.m. The latter can complete the semi-final field with an away win.
