PlayStation 5: a reseller lists the console at 70 euros… and cancels the order

Usually sold at a price of 450 euros, the PlayStation 5 (Digital Edition) almost sold for less than the price of the games.

Thursday, December 7 almost marked the deal of the year for this resident of Marchienne-au-Pont, in Belgium. While he went to the Fnac website to give his daughter a gift, he discovered that the PlayStation 5 was listed at the exceptional price of 69.99 euros.

Rushing to the opportunity, he then placed an order with the reseller. If it was initially accepted, it will ultimately be canceled due to an error.

A PS5 for less than 70 euros at Fnac? Yes, but…

In the columns of our colleagues from RTL Info, Rocco, the Belgian father who placed an order with Fnac, claims to have seen his order canceled even though it had initially been validated. In fact, despite receiving the purchase order, the buyer was not able to receive his console since it was a pricing error. A decision that he contests, especially since it is not the first time that an error of this type has happened:

“ I find it a little too easy to always go back because there is an error on a site. They already made a mistake last week and here again. We would have preferred to have this PS5 », he expresses to RTL Info.

A few days earlier, Fnac had put a connected speaker on sale at the price of 39 euros instead of the usual 119 euros. If it was indeed an error on the part of the dealer, the situation seems, this time, slightly different.

A price error deemed too significant to be credible

According to Julie Frère, spokesperson for Test-Achats, a Belgian association dedicated to consumer protection, “ the law provides that we are still required to sell the product at the price displayed, except in the event of a truly obvious error “.

In the case of the PlayStation 5 displayed at 69.99 euros instead of 449.99 euros, “ there may be discussions because there is a very big difference between the normal price and the price displayed on the site », unlike the connected speaker scenario where the error was not as obvious.

Although Rocco of course contacted Fnac customer service to demand a refund, he did not hide his disappointment: “ Consoles at this price, it’s super disappointing not to have them even if we suspected it. I wanted to give it to my daughter, but we will give her something else “.
