PlayStation architect takes well-deserved retirement after decades at Sony

After more than 35 years at Sony, Masayasu Ito will be taking a well-deserved retirement.

The man had notably written an official blog post two years ago, concerning the disassembly of the PS5.

The architect of the latest PlayStations

It’s official, the Japanese giant Sony will separate at the end of this month of September from the vice-president of its Sony Interactive Entertainment division, in charge in particular of the PlayStation and various gaming initiatives.

We started conceptualizing the PS5 in 2015, and have spent the past five years designing and developing the console “Explained Masayasu Ito almost two years ago, just a few weeks before the launch of the PS5.

For the record, Masayasu Ito, now 60 years old, will leave Sony after no less than 35 years spent with the Japanese company. The latter joined Sony in 1986, and worked for many years on automotive audio equipment, before moving to the console division in 2000.

During his 22 years with the PlayStation Group, Masayasu Ito led the engineering of the PlayStation 4 (and later PS4 Pro), a console launched in 2013 that sold over $117 million. units, and of course the PlayStation 5, whose second anniversary will be celebrated next November. During the 2000s, he also worked on the PlayStation 3, not to mention the PSP portable console.

Recall that Masayasu Ito had written a post on the PlayStation Blog in October 2020, in order to explain the architecture of the new PS5. A message which was then accompanied by a video allowing you to discover the bowels of the console next gen from Sony.
