What a sad record for the yet promising title of Square-Enix. If we could have thought that Babylon’s Fall had all the ingredients to pleasewith in particular its combat phases based on those of Nier: Automata therefore offering similar hack’n’slash gameplay, the release of the title did not meet with unanimous approval among players.
If the title of Square Enix registers an average of 60 players online per day according to data from Web Steam Charts, which is, we will not hide it, very low, it was on Wednesday May 4 that Babylon’s Fall had only one player connected.
A sad reality that the player in question, who revealed his identity on social networks and who therefore turned out to be journalist Dashiell Woodwanted to take a humorous tone through a tweet.
Following this, he did not hesitate to change his biography, indicating for a few hours “World’s only Babylon’s Fall Player“, to be translated as “The only player in the world of Babylon’s Fall”.
An inevitable descent for Babylon’s Fall?
If this anecdote is still quite sad, was this descent in popularity predictable and inevitable? Well it would seem so. When it launched in March 2022, the Square Enix title did not attract crowdsaccounting for only a little more than 260 players connected simultaneously.
Over the days, attendance has continued to decline, with an average of around 85 players a few weeks ago, then 60 today, a loss of more than 200 players.
But then, why so few people on this game? The reasons are quite simple and understandable. When announced during E3 2018, Platinum Gameswhich is at the head of the title, promised a 3D beat them upbut a few months later, the studio apparently decided to change several elements, transforming Babylon’s Fall in a foursome dungeon-crawling. In addition, the artistic direction has also changed to reveal much more pastel tones.
Nevertheless, despite an uncertain future, Square Enix does not remain defeatist and is reassuring since in a statement published last March, the studio announced the arrival of new content as well as improvements to come.
