Playstation continues to invest in PC by adding the possibility of linking your PSN account to your Steam account. In this way, players will be able to claim bonus content on the PC versions of Playstation games.
For a few years now, Playstation has decided to focus more on the PC market. Witness the many successful ports of several Playstation exclusives, such as Days Gone, Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War or recently Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Sackboy: A Big Adventure.
Despite this rapprochement with the PC, the Japanese manufacturer does not plan to offer simultaneous releases of its exclusives on PlayStation consoles and on PC. The PS5 and PS4 remain the priority, which is why Sony recently announced that it would take at least a year before seeing its latest AAA games on PC.
Sony and Steam hand in hand
Anyway, the Japanese firm continues to strengthen its presence on PC. Indeed, Sony has just announced the possibility link your Steam account to the Playstation Network. Thanks to this feature, players will be able to claim bonus content on PC versions of Playstation games.
“You will also receive all the latest news, offers and updates for Playstation Studios games on PC or consoles PlayStation”, specifies Sony on a dedicated web page. Marvel’s Spider-Man is also the first title to benefit from this bridge between the two platforms. By linking your PSN and Steam accounts, you can unlock an outfit, a gadget and two skill points.
In the long term, we hope that this connection between Steam and the PSN will offer more functionalities. We think in particular of cross-progression, which would synchronize backups between different platforms. This is already the case on the Xbox Game Pass for example, which allows you to find your progress on PC and Xbox Series X / S and One.
How to sign in to PSN on PC
Playstation displays the procedure on its official website. There she is :
- Purchase, download and play an eligible Playstation game playable on PC. You must set privacy options for your data and login to PSN during the initial boot sequence
- Enter your login ID and password or create a new account if you don’t have one
- Select your communication and data preferences
- PS: it is also possible to link your account from the game settings menu
As a reminder, recent rumors mentioned the imminent launch of a PC launcher for Playstation games. If the launcher is not yet a reality, the integration of the PSN to the PC ports represents a first step.
