Handhelds are on the rise: Asus Rog Ally, Steam Deck and Co. show that the flop of the PS Vita is no reason to give up the concept of mobile gaming. Nintendo had proven this again and again, most recently with the Switch. And Sony is also giving the handheld a chance again, at least as a remote device in the form of the PlayStation Portal. A new patent now shows that Microsoft is also working on at least a mobile gaming concept.

According to Gizmochina, the manufacturer could be in direct competition with Sony. Apparently there is no plan for a handheld device with powerful hardware.

Rather, the patent shows a Joy-Con-like controller like the Nintendo Switch, which can be attached to existing devices such as smartphones or tablets on the left and right. According to the patent, the controller also offers a self-adjusting handle mechanism.

Possibly planned for cloud gaming

So it is not a direct competitor to the portal. The manufacturer may be planning to use the controller to expand its reach in the cloud gaming sector. However, it is not clear whether the Microsoft controller will actually come onto the market.

The manufacturer files over 1,500 patents every year, only some of which make it into finished products. However, the concept is exciting and should be particularly interesting for gamers who are often on the go.
