PlayStation Stars: a new loyalty program with virtual rewards unveiled, but without NFT!

In addition to rare exclusives expected during this second half of the year on the PS5 and PS4, such as The Last of Us Part I and God of War Ragnarokit is above all on the services side that Sony Interactive Entertainment is currently communicating and renewing itself. After the overhaul of Playstation Plusof which we learned yesterday the list of games added to subscriptions Extra and Premium in July, it’s a brand new program that has just been unveiled, called PlayStation Stars.

But what is behind this name? As explained on the blog of the firm, PlayStation Stars is a unique free loyalty program that will be launched later this year and will earn rewards through campaigns and activities over the months. This will range from playing the games in our collection to winning tournaments organized by the brand, passing through the acquisition of Trophies specific or even to be the first player to obtain a Platinum in our geographical area (if the media and influencers count, it’s a bit of a cheat…).

All members will be able to obtain “loyalty points” to spend within a catalog including funds for our wallet NHP (like with Microsoft Rewards ?) and products from Playstation Store previously selected (games, DLCs…). Otherwise, all subscribers to PS+ automatically earn extra points. A new type of reward will be introduced for the occasion, called in English “digital collectibles” and “objects of digital collection” in Frenchwhich will be “digital representations of beloved items from the PlayStation universe, such as figurines of iconic characters from games and other forms of entertainment, as well as peripherals celebrating Sony’s history and innovations”.

And since the thorny question of NFT can quickly come to mind with this kind of statement, the washington post was entitled to a clear answer from the vice president of network advertising Grace Chen:

They are definitely not NFTs. Definitely not. You cannot trade or sell them. This does not leverage any blockchain technology and is definitely not NFTs.

It only remains to wait for more concrete about this program PlayStation Stars which should therefore appeal to the brand’s assiduous fans.
