PlayStation Studios: ambitions in the field of live service games are taking a hit, with multiple postponements made

As you may have read via our summary article, Sony announced its quarterly results, which are very good for video games and therefore for PlayStation. But mention was also made ofan impact of the change in release dates of some of the games first party in development. We know a little more about this and it concerns ambitions in the field of so-called games live service. It’s the CFO And COO Hiroki Totoki who shared this during the investor call. As a reminder, he is currently replacing Jim Ryan and will become interim CEO on April 1. Moreover, on this subject, he does not intend to stay more than a year in this position and will ensure during this period to find a worthy successor to the outgoing president and to ensure a smooth transition. Under the leadership of his predecessor, it was decided to optimize the games portfolio PlayStation live serviceas recalled last May during a strategic presentation, and this in particular thanks to the expertise of Bungie in this matter (we will come back to the layoffs made by the studio later). There are therefore no fewer than 12 games-as-a-service projects in the works. and Jim Ryan planned to release 10 by March 2026, but without abandoning classic single-player games.

Well, half of these games live service is therefore postponed beyond fiscal year 2025, which will end on March 31, 2026 for Sonydue to concerns about their quality. Six games of this type will therefore be released well before this date, at least if all goes well. Here is what Hiroki Totoki said, reported by VGC :

We’re looking at that…we’re trying as much as possible to ensure that [ces jeux] be appreciated and loved by players for a long time. [Sur] the 12 titles, six will be published by [la fin de, NDLR] FY25 – that’s our current plan. [Quant aux] six titles left, we’re still working on it.

This is the total number of live service and multiplayer titles, [et] in the medium and long term, we want [pousser] this type of service and it is the unchanged policy of the company. It’s not like we’re stuck on certain titles, but game quality should be the most important thing.

Among them, there should still be MarathonL’extraction shooter of Bungie, since Jason Schreier was talking about a postponement to 2025 instead of a release next year. It is difficult to know which of the other known projects could be impacted otherwise. Last I heard, things were going badly for the multiplayer game The Last of Us of Naughty Dognot to mention the layoffs in the studio…

SIE London Studio is developing an ambitious, but still very mysterious game, taking place in a fantastic universe and which would respond to the code name “Camden”. Guerrilla Games to his Horizon Onlinewhile Haven Studios has already presented Fairgame$a futuristic heist game with PvP and quite reminiscent of Watch Dogs And Firewalk Studios introduced the shooter multiplayer PvP Concordwhich was planned for 2024. The license MLB The Show was also considered part of the catalog live servicethen the next annualized episodes are perhaps also counted in it.

If you prefer single player games with an ending, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is sold for €69.99 on Amazon, at the house of Cdiscount And to the Fnac (with €10 offered on your loyalty account).
