It had long been clear that Sony was working on new virtual reality glasses (“VR”). Now the company is finally confirming the name. It should not surprise anyone that the headset is simply called “PlayStation VR2”.
In addition, the Japanese company reveals the technical data, which you can find in the table below. Sony announces that the VR glasses have an increased field of view of 110 degrees and increased resolution (4K HDR, 2,000 by 2,040 pixels per eye).
The “Specs” indicate that the handling and the experience with the VR glasses should be more pleasant and immersive than with the predecessor.
Less tangled cables
This is supported by the fact that the facility is simpler. There is only one cable and you connect it directly to the PS5. You no longer need a separate camera because PS VR2 offers “inside-out tracking”. Cameras in the headset track your movements with the controller.

The headset vibrates on the head
In the future, there will also be more feedback from the game directly via the headset. For example, you should be able to feel the pulse of your character when things get more exciting. Or when a vehicle starts moving, PS VR2 gives you the feeling of being pushed. Together with the haptic feedback from the new PS VR controllers, you should feel more with Sony’s new hardware than before.
Price and release date have not yet been set
Sony does not reveal the price or the release date, but according to a rumor, PS VR2 will be released at the end of 2022. In view of the delivery bottlenecks during the pandemic, however, such forecasts are rather uncertain.
