What if PlayStation’s approach to PC would soon be significantly strengthened? A discovery in the files of its exclusives ported to PC suggests so.
The PlayStation exclusives in question include Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered. In the PC version of the latter, we find traces of files that will alert the flea (or the spider?). We unravel the web thus woven to see what it hides.
PlayStation is expanding its canvas on PC?
PlayStation’s desire to invest in the PC market is now obvious. It started with the port of one of its flagship exclusives: Horizon Zero Dawn. Since then, PC gamers have been rather spoiled with titles like Uncharted 4, God of War, Returnal and most recently Horizon Forbidden West. Sometimes, however, the good news was spoiled by an infected port like that of The Last of Us Part I. Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered is one of PlayStation’s good picks on PC, obviously in more than one way.
In the files of the PC version of the game, dataminers as ingenious as Peter Parker have made some interesting discoveries. We will particularly note one referring in English to a “PlayStation PC Launcher”. In other PC ports, we can also find references to a link with a PSN account. However, at present, there is no connectivity between PSN players on the PC versions. Everything therefore suggests that this could soon change.
Soon a competitor to Steam, Epic Games Store and others?
With an ever-growing catalog of PlayStation exclusives ported to PC, the idea of developing a dedicated launcher seems particularly plausible. This would allow them all to be concentrated on the same platform. Better yet, this would facilitate the implementation of a cross-platform with the PS5, especially for multiplayer games. The more time advances, the more Sony realizes that the PC market is an excellent breeding ground for putting its productions back in the spotlight. The next one affected by the maneuver is Ghost of Tsushima, which many PC players are eagerly awaiting.
Of course, these findings are no guarantee that PlayStation has such plans in mind. The prospect is in any case far from absurd. If such a launcher were to be deployed on PC, it remains to be seen whether players would be receptive to it. While there are already many on the platform, would one more be well received by the community?
