Plopping: This is how you get shiny curls

A curly mane that is second to none – thanks to plopping it doesn’t have to remain a dream! We’ll tell you how to use the plopping method and why it’s so effective for beautiful curls.

Plopping: The method for curls full of bounce

Plopping describes a method of drying natural curls or natural waves in a gentle way. As a result, the curls are more defined and do not lose their bounce. All you need is a cotton shirt and a little patience and at the end you can look forward to curls full of dynamism. The technique is part of the curly girl method that Lorraine Massey developed.

Plopping: application and tips

Preparations:

To be able to perform the plopping method, you will need a larger one Cotton shirt or alternatively a Long-sleeved shirt. If you don’t have this at home, a microfiber towel will do, but cotton actually absorbs moisture better, so that the hair is gently dried. By the way: You don’t need to worry about the cotton shirt, it won’t be damaged.

Requirement:

In order for plopping to work for you, you should at least have one Natural wave and at best Natural curls have. Plopping can’t turn straight hair into a curly mane! The hair length, on the other hand, is not that important – but the method works easiest with shoulder-length hair.

Plopping in combination with the curly girl method

Originally, plopping was used in combination with the curly girl method. The main points of this method are as follows:

  • Ideally, do not use shampoo to wash your hair, but rely on conditioner.
  • Comb your hair while the conditioner is in the hair, and then rinse it off with cold water.
  • Let your hair hang upside down and knead a curl care product from the tips into your hair. For this come z. For example: flaxseed gel, hair oil, leave-in conditioner or a curling cream. The hair is then dried using the plopping method.

Plopping method: here’s how

If you use the curly girl method, plopping is the final step in drying your hair. You can of course also use plopping after washing your hair normally and thus contribute to more beautiful curls. In general, you should only be careful not to rub your hair dry with a towel after shampooing, as this could damage the hair structure.

  1. Lay a cotton shirt on a flat surface in front of you so that the bottom edge of the shirt is facing up.
  2. Let your hair fall upside down so that it meets the shirt relatively centrally.
  3. Fold the edge of the shirt behind the neck and twist the sleeves in the front to the right and left around the head so that you can knot them at the back of the head. All hair must be enclosed in the shirt.
  4. The shirt remains in this position for hours or overnight. The hair will dry out during this time.
  5. If you remove the shirt later, all you have to do is shake up your curls a little, but you shouldn’t comb them anymore! The hair will probably not be completely dry, so let it air dry a little afterwards or use a hairdryer with a diffuser attachment if it has to be faster. This is how plopping works

The shirt ensures that your hair is pressed against your head during the drying process, which gives it more definition and bounce. If the hair were to air dry, the curls tend to hang out. In addition, the gentle drying with plopping helps to avoid frizz. Curly hair generally needs more moisture: The naturally drier curls usually hang down dull if they do not receive intensive care. Dry rubbing with normal towels, for example, tends to roughen the hair, lose moisture and create frizz. So plopping allows you to bring out your curls more and give them more shine at the same time. The result: beautiful curls without any papilots and the like!
