Podcast. How the Taliban took over Afghanistan

Almost twenty years after being ousted from power by the Americans in 2001, the Taliban took over the capital of Afghanistan, Kabul, on Sunday August 15, following a lightning offensive that did not meet with part of the Afghan army, little resistance.

How to explain this rapid return after the withdrawal of American troops, announced by the President of the United States, Joe Biden, on April 14? Who are the Taliban? How did they prepare for this reconquest from Pakistan?

On June 15, Jacques Follorou, journalist at World and specialist in the region, explained to us in “L’Heure du Monde” all the events for twenty years which then entailed a risk that the Taliban would end up regaining power. Now that it’s done, we’re rebroadcasting this podcast.

An episode produced by Cyrielle Bedu, directed by Amandine Robillard and presented by Jean-Guillaume Santi.
