Podcast. Will the shipwrecks of migrants in the Channel increase?

The Channel had never known such a deadly shipwreck of migrants. On November 24, twenty-seven people died at sea in the sinking of their boat. All were seeking to reach England from Calais.

How to explain the increase in recent months of crossings in “small boats”, at the cost of tragedies that we have seen more so far in the Mediterranean? Why does the UK attract migrants so much? Why has this sinking created strong tensions between the English Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, and Emmanuel Macron?

Julia Pascual, migration specialist at Worldexplains why such shipwrecks are likely to increase and what measures France and the United Kingdom plan to take to prevent them.

An episode produced by Cyrielle Bedu, directed by Florentin Baume, and presented by Jean-Guillaume Santi.
