As Pokémon GO celebrates its 6th anniversary in July 2022, it’s time to look back at the exact number of creatures that the mobile game offers for capture. With the addition of generations over the years, Niantic still has some catching up to do if he wants to be up to date compared to the games of the main series but it should be soon!
Pokémon GO Pokédex: Where are we?
Recently, Niantic added Ultra Beasts to Pokémon GO and the first Gen 7 creatures, joining Mega Evolutions and even regional forms like Alola or Galar. A way to do something messy when you know that special or Legendary Pokémon from previous generations are still not available. However, even if it seems logical that the 9th generation, with Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, will never be available at the same time on the mobile game, we are getting closer and closer to the final goal.
On Twitter, user Pogo_central posted an infographic showing where Pokémon GO’s Pokédex stands as of July 2022:
- All Pokemon from Kantō (1G) and Johto (2G) are currently available in the mobile game,
- For Hoenn (3G) only one Pokémon is missing: Kecleon,
- HAS sinnoh (4G) these are 3 Pokémon that have not yet been added: Phione, Manaphy and Arceus,
- Side United (5G) only 5 are missing: Zorua, Zoroark, Pyronille, Pyrax, Keldeo
- For other generations, added more recently, it gets more complicated. Only 59 Pokémon from Kalos (6G) out of 72 have been added. For Alola (7G), we only have 38 of the 86. And for galar (8G) only 13 out of 89. We must add to this Meltan and Memeltal which do not have an assigned region but which are of course on Pokémon GO.
You will have understood it, it will probably be necessary to wait another one or two years before seeing the ninth generation on Pokémon GO.

Why is it taking so long?
It looks like Niantic has found the happy medium adequate to make the most present players wait and bring old or new trainers back to the application each time new pocket monsters are added. Having such a large reserve of Pokémon to bring to the mobile game is a real security for Niantic if it wants to proliferate the gains obtained via Pokémon GO and keep as many players as possible. Although the success of July 2016 is over, the title is still very popular and this is thanks to the many updates it has.
After all, the goal of the mobile game, just like the main series games, is to capture all the Pokémon and complete your Pokédex. Most trainers will therefore not stop playing until this objective is fulfilled and Pokémon GO then seems to have a good life ahead of it.
