Angelica Moser improved her personal best to 4.75 m at the World Championships in Budapest. That was enough for a strong 5th place.

Angelica Moser has surpassed herself in her third participation in the World Cup with rank 5. The Zurich native achieved a personal best in the open air by jumping 4.75 m. She surpassed the 4.66 she had achieved in Basel in 2020 by 9 centimeters.

The 25-year-old even attacked Nicole Büchler’s Swiss record (4.78). But at the height of 4.80 she then failed three times. Nevertheless: The performance can hardly be rated highly enough and should have a similar meaning for Moser as the title at the European Indoor Championships 2021 in Torun, Poland, when she also jumped 4.75. As the icing on the cake, she also made the limit for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Progression run at World Cup

The success of Moser, who was finally able to compete in a major event without any physical problems, was announced. She cleared the entry hurdles of 4.30 and 4.50 in the first attempt. The bar fell for the first time at 4.65, but the Swiss had no trouble on the second attempt.

At 4.75 she was close twice at first. She kept her nerve and actually cracked the height on the third attempt. She continued her progression at world championships. After 13th in Doha 2019 and 8th in Eugene last year, she made it into the top 5 for the first time.

Moon and Kennedy both with gold

Katie Moon and Nina Kennedy fought an exciting duel for the gold medal, which ultimately ended in a draw. Both US title holder Moon and Australia’s Kennedy jumped 4.90 m on the third attempt and failed at 4.95.

Because they had exactly the same number of failed attempts, they shared the world championship title. Bronze went to Finland’s Wilma Murto (4.80). Slovenia’s Tina Sutej reached the same height but had one more failed attempt.
