“Police call 110: Immortal”: Mysterious crash of a star influencer

That’s what “Polizeiruf 110: Immortal” is about

The new “Polizeiruf 110” from Magdeburg has an extremely dramatic beginning: At prime shopping time, a young woman crashes through the glass roof of a shopping mall to her death, and the impact area quickly fills with young representatives of Generation Z, who sensationalize the spectacle with their cell phones hold onto. When Inspector Doreen Brasch arrives at the scene, she gets at least the first clue about the identity of the dead from a young woman. Apparently this is the well-known influencer Aalisha Mansour (Hannah Gharib, 26), who had recently fallen out of favor with her one and a half million followers after advertising an ineffective diet preparation on her Instagram channel.

In view of the merciless shitstorm that Aalisha was exposed to afterwards, everything initially looks like a suicide, but pretty quickly the knockout drops found in the dead woman’s blood and cuts on her hands cause this theory to collapse. Further investigations reveal that the former internet star had also fallen out of favor with her Middle Eastern family, who viewed her social media fame, which was built on illusions, with critical eyes.

Instead of helping out in the family restaurant like her sister, Aalisha did everything she could to get a piece of the coveted red carpet and sell her fans new lifestyle products. She attracted the greatest hatred from her brother Mahdi Mansour (Mo Issa, 25), who saw her revealing appearance and her secret lesbian relationship with her roommate Leonie Jaspers (Katharina Stark, 25) as a disgrace and therefore threatened her several times. While according to the cliché it appears to be an honor killing, the plot takes a bizarre and completely unexpected turn.

Is it worth turning on?

Yes. “Polizeiruf 110: Unsterblich” basically has everything an exciting Sunday evening crime thriller needs so as not to waste the viewer’s time. In addition to an original setting in the shady influencer milieu, excellent image staging and a spectacular dramaturgical highlight after the first third of the investigation, this case has a lot to offer. Unfortunately, the intended thriller repeatedly becomes a tough and unauthentic affair due to stilted dialogues that primarily try to convey specific information to the audience and summarize back stories. This particularly applies to the depiction of the inner conflicts of the shattered Mansour family, in which the characters are never deepened and even the suicide of the desperate father only causes superficial concern.

However, the dedication at the end of the “police call” to two actors who died before this Sunday crime thriller was broadcast caused much greater consternation. On the one hand, this is Pablo Grant (1997-2024), who has played Günther Márquez, the chief detective responsible for background research, in the Magdeburg crime scene since 2020. In February 2024, the Berlin actor and rapper unexpectedly succumbed to the consequences of a thrombosis at the age of just 26. His colleague Hendrik Arnst (1950-2024) had a much longer life when he died in January at the age of 73. In “Polizeiruf 110: Unsterblich” the theater and film actor, known for his character roles, played the supporting role of a retirement home resident.
