Cause Chrupalla: No suspect in sight

After the state elections in Hesse and Bavaria, the excitement surrounding the alleged attack on AfD spokesman Chrupalla has noticeably subsided. However, the investigation is not making any progress. There is still no suspect. An expert opinion could at least clarify another question.

After AfD leader Tino Chrupalla was treated in hospital for an incident at an election campaign event in Ingolstadt, no suspect has yet been found. The investigation into suspicion of bodily harm continued against unknown persons, reported senior public prosecutor Veronika Grieser. A report from forensic experts is now expected to provide new information.

At the beginning of October, a few days before the state elections in Bavaria, Chrupalla had to be treated and taken to hospital before a planned speech in Ingolstadt. In the clinic, he was temporarily monitored in the intensive care unit due to complaints. Doctors found a puncture wound in Chrupalla’s upper right arm.

The AfD leader himself later said that an attack had been carried out on him. However, it is not yet clear when exactly Chrupalla was pricked with a needle and by whom. It was said that several people in Ingolstadt approached Chrupalla to take selfies with him. Investigations for a poison initially yielded no results.

The public prosecutor’s office commissioned a report from the Institute for Forensic Medicine in Munich “to clarify all open medical questions.” It is still unclear when the report will be available, explained Grieser. According to the public prosecutor, the police have now questioned most of the people present at the election event. A few witness interviews are still pending. In addition, around 50 photos and videos were evaluated.
