Pony Car, Generation 7 – Only as a V8: The new Ford Mustang is here!

It still exists, the real Mustang (alongside the Mach-E), or again: the seventh generation can now be ordered. Ford is taking a different approach than many other manufacturers: the four-cylinder engines are only sold in the USA. In Europe there is always twice the number of cylinders under the hood.

The new Mustang, which has been available at home since mid-2023, is based on the same platform as its predecessor, but comes with a completely redesigned body and a new – digital – interior and a further developed drive. With its refreshed, edgier design, it is intended to appeal to the next generation of fans. As a coupé or as a convertible. The Mustang GT produces 446 hp and delivers a maximum torque of 540 Nm. In the top performance model Mustang Dark Horse there is even 453 hp. The base price of 86,000 euros already includes a performance package that, in addition to 19-inch alloy wheels and correspondingly large Brembo brakes, also includes a limited-slip differential, an active flap exhaust and much more. The top model also comes with an electronic drift brake, among other things. New V8 with high-tech update The fourth engine generation of the V8 has a new intake system with two air inlets and two throttle valves. At low speeds, only a single throttle valve opens, improving fuel efficiency. If the V8 revs higher, the second throttle valve opens synchronously, thereby maximizing power development. The high-pressure direct and low-pressure port injection also work together according to a comparable principle – they provide a lot of pulling power in the lower rev range as well as greater peak power at high speeds. A polymer-coated crankshaft made of forged steel is used in the unit. The camshafts on the intake and exhaust sides have also been redesigned and control the valves variably. Shifting can be done either via a ten-speed automatic or a manual six-speed gearbox with speed adjustment. The flat shift function is also available as an option: This allows the driver to shift up without taking their foot off the accelerator pedal – so the engine power is delivered to the drive wheels with virtually no interruption in tractive power. The adaptive MagneRide chassis is optional. As classic as the new Mustang is and remains: the cockpit is state-of-the-art digitally. A large glass area connects the 12.4-inch speedometer display with the 13.2-inch touchscreen. The pony car is also rich in assistance systems, but one thing is missing: the driver basically has to operate the steering wheel himself. This is how much classic car there has to be.
