Pope Francis denounces the “murders and atrocities” committed in Ukraine

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) – The war in Ukraine is a “senseless massacre”, Pope Francis said on Sunday, calling on the international community to end it.

“The violent aggression against Ukraine unfortunately does not weaken,” he said in front of 30,000 people gathered in Saint Peter’s Square.

“It is a senseless massacre, massacres and atrocities are repeated every day,” said the sovereign pontiff.

“Nothing can justify this.”

“I implore all members of the international community to make a sincere commitment to ending this repugnant war,” he said to cheers from the crowd of worshipers.

“Again this week, missiles and numbers hit civilians, the elderly, children and pregnant women,” he added.
